- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Introduction ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- MainActor/2 is a modular animation package. It allows you to load, edit, play
- and save animations and pictures of various formats and of any size.
-
- MainActor/2 features many animation processing functions, fast playback through
- the use of DIVE technology from IBM, a very fast and efficient module engine
- which makes it very flexible and much more.
-
- MainView/2 is the external player of MainActor/2. It is useful when you only
- want to play an animation and dont want to load MainActor/2 just for that.
- MainView/2 can also be associated to other programs, like the WebExplorer.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Why release a Beta ? ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- We are new on the OS/2 market and want to make our products as integrated into
- the OS/2 environment as possible. The best way is to let the user decide how he
- likes to use a program or which functions he needs. This is the reason why we
- decided to release MainActor/2 at this stage.
-
- Of course this means that we need your feedback. So, if you are interested in
- an animation processing package for OS/2, send us your wishes and suggestions.
-
- Note that beta software can contain bugs and is missing features of the final
- release.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. MainActor/2 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- MainActor/2 is the animation processing part of the MainActor/2 package.
-
- You can load every animation and picture format for which MainActor/2 has the
- proper loader module.
-
- Also, MainActor/2 can save any animation and picture format for which it has
- the proper saver module. The currently supplied modules are listed by selecting
- the Loader Module and Saver Modules items of the Help menu.
-
- Sound and effect modules will be integrated later.
-
- MainActor/2 features detailed online help. Please use it to make most of
- MainActor/2.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. MainView/2 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- MainView/2 is the player only part of MainActor. Useful if you just want to
- play an animation or want it to be associated with another program (WebExplorer
- etc).
-
- It can play every animation format and show every picture format for which
- MainActor/2 has the proper loader module. Saving is not supported from within
- MainView/2.
-
- The install script writes the path of the current directory to the user.ini
- file. This helps MainView/2 to find its loader modules if it was not started
- from within its own directory. If you change the location of the MainActor/2
- files or delete the user.ini file, make sure to restart the install script.
-
- Note, currently MainView/2 is quite simplistic. A better user interface and
- more features will be integrated in the next revisions.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Start Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Starting MainView/2 by clicking on its icon opens a file requester. Otherwise
- you can pass the name on the command line.
-
- Note that you can also drop the icon of your animation/picture on the
- MainView/2 icon.
-
- MainView/2 currently supports the following parameters:
-
- -c
- Cache Data. This option will load all data of the animation into a
- ram cache before playing. This will speed up animation playback. If
- not enough free ram is available, MainView/2 will free the already
- allocated memory and play directly from harddisk/cdrom. This option
- is off by default.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. The Future ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- MainActor/2 is shareware. The early beta stages of this product are however
- free of any charge for the user. A rough feature list is now given for the
- coming versions of MainActor/2.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.1. The Coming Features ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- This is a rough list of the things to come:
-
- Modules
- As many loader/saver modules as possible, along with Developer Kits for
- writing them.
-
- Sound Support
- This will be one of the main features of MainActor/2. You will be able to
- drag and drop sound effects on every frame of the project, just like the
- Amiga version.
-
- Drag and Drop
- Drag and drop support in general along with a toolbar will be included.
-
- Native Sound Support
- Native sound support for QT and AVI animations is a must.
-
- Animation Processing Functions
- Graphical profiles of animations (time and size), etc.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Developer Kits ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Developer Kits will be available for loader and saver modules, both for picture
- and animation formats. We are not yet sure if we will make the display engine
- modular too, as DIVE is quite good.
-
- In fact, any coming MainActor/2 module format like effect and sound modules
- will be available for developers.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Registration ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- This is an early BETA copy of MainActor/2 which does not need to be registered
- as we do not raise a shareware fee for it.
-
- You may register for the final shareware version. The fee is $60 (99,- DM) or
- any equivalent sum in your local currency. Please no foreign checks (except
- EuroChecks). We do take Master/EuroCard.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Known Problems ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Sometimes after loading an animation MainActor/2 will hang. Iam not yet
- sure what is the cause as it only happens very rarely on my machine. Hope
- this is fixed for v0.21.
- On certain newer DIVE configurations, the machine will hang a few seconds
- before playback. This is a problem (a bug ?) with the newer DIVE dlls.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. History ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The history lists every revision of MainActor/2 together with the improvements,
- bug fixes and new features of the revision.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.1. Version 0.1 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- First public release.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.2. Version 0.15 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Added the project and frames popup menus into the main menu.
- Added the invert menu item function to the edit menu.
- Fixed some error handling bugs while loading projects.
- Added the PCX loader module.
- Several bug fixes in the FLI / FLC loader module.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.3. Version 0.17 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Added the DL loader module.
- Added the sort functions in the frames menu.
- Many smaller improvements in the UI.
- Compiled the source with VAC++.
- Added the QT loader module. The following restrictions exist for QT in
- this version :
- - No Intel Indeo decompression (hope to include this later).
- - No sound (the sound engine has not yet been ported, will be done
- later).
- Sometimes the menu checkmark for the Timed menu item in the playback
- window did not uncheck properly, fixed.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.4. Version 0.18 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Compiled with newer VA object classes. Fixes some GUI problems.
- Fixed some bugs in the QT loader.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.5. Version 0.19 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Fixed a serious bug in the handling of the loader/saver modules. MA/2
- could hang if another module in the libpath did apply to the naming
- pattern of the MA/2 modules.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.6. Version 0.20 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Due to an oversight in the MainActor/2 code, versions up to v0.19 did not
- run under FAT filesystems. This has been fixed now.
- Fixed a bug in the FLC saver module. This bug could cause the FLC saver
- to cripple the new animation when an empty (dummy) frame was encountered
- in the source project.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9.7. Version 0.21 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Changed the DIVE buffer. The old DIVE dlls as shipped with Warp seemed to
- crash with RGB3 buffers. Worked around this by rewriting the code to use
- BGR3 buffers. This seems to work fine.
- Rewrote large parts of the online documentation.
- Added MainView/2 to the distribution.
